Electra, Day 1-3

Electra needed some love right out of the gate: I’m super sensitive to smells and it smelled of smoke throughout. The first order of business was to get rid of the soft stuff… So we did that, less than 12 hours after we got the keys. In a house this old, we could only hope that removing the carpet would reveal hardwood floors, and in 3 of the 4 rooms, we scored! They’re not in perfect shape, but they’re not too bad. I’ll take it.

Guest Room 3: Upstairs

West Wing Hall & Bedroom: We 80% scored here…the hallway was half subfloor and half pretty rough hardwood floors, so we decided to have it carpeted to solve that quickly. It’s also a lot of levels, thanks to years of flooring on top of flooring on top of flooring in the West Wing Foyer and West Wing Bathroom, so carpet was the way to go for now. These pics aren’t the best - I can’t find the Before of the hallway or the official Before of the bedroom, so here’s the hallway with the new carpet but you can see the hardwood of the bedroom in the distance, and here’s a pic of the bedroom as I started the wallpaper project. More on that later…

Guest Room 1: Off Dining Room - we didn’t score on this one. Subfloor galore. We decided to have it carpeted because it was the cheapest and most effective solution for the time being. It’s a 120+ year old house, there are quite a few more imminent issues to take care of before we go ripping up very-well-laid subflooring.
